Pre-surgery and post-surgery factors that determine your time of recovery after the removal of your wisdom teeth

After having a dental surgery, the person remains in a situation of trauma for a very long time. This happens due to the terrible memories of the time of tooth extraction or due to the present suffering. Even after a few days of a dental surgery, a person experiences pain, bleeding of gums and swelling in gums and cheek. This is due to the reason that after a tooth is extracted, our body creates a blood clot in the space of the tooth. Once a stable blood clot is formed, the transforming of the bone starts taking place. This takes about a weak to complete.
After the bone is reformed, the gum will act as a fastening agent for the exposed pocket to enable it to continue healing. There is not a fixed recovery time for the patients who have gone through the removal of wisdom tooth as it depends upon a number of factors like :
• Is the patient suffering from any other disease like diabetes
• What kind of extraction technique was used for the tooth removal
• Has the tooth or the nearby teeth adapted to the surgery
• Is there any infection existing in the operated area
Depending upon all these factors, an estimated time of the recovery can be suggested by the dentist but the wound may take its own time to heal. Apart from all these pre- surgery factors, there are also some post- surgery factors that affect the time of recovery. Your dentist will always give you a number of instructions that you should follow for a fast recovery after the removal of wisdom tooth. Some of these instructions are :
• Eat only those foods which can be easily swallowed. Don’t eat anything hard for a few days.
• Chilled foods and drinks are very effective in reducing the bleeding and swelling in gums. Foods like ice creams and yogurt can be consumed.
• Medicated gauze can also be used in case excessive bleeding or swelling occurs.
• The medications should be taken regularly, but in case you forget to take a dosage, never double it the next time. Always consult the doctor before doing so.
• Gargling with warm water containing salt can prevent the occurrence of any bacterial infection.
• An ice pack can be applied for around 10 minutes to reduce the swelling of the cheek and gums.
• Brushing should be done extra carefully as a little jerk may destroy all the healing happened in the past few days.
Keeping these few things in mind will help you heal faster. Always listen to the dentist carefully and make a list of all the precautions told by him. Following the instructions of the dentist will help you heal faster and with less pain. In case you have tried all these steps, still the pain, bleeding or swelling is not reducing, immediately contact your dentist. Healing process of gums involves developing of a blood clot at the place of the tooth removed which is very delicate and a slight shake may remove the clot which will increase the healing time.
